Partnering to continue The Charitable Legacy

Rotary Club of Yorkton Closes After 100 Years of Giving

At the June 2022 AGM of the Rotary Club of Yorkton, on the eve of the clubs 100th Anniversary, the members and the executive of the Club made the difficult decision to close.  Like many charitable and community service organizations, the sudden onset and duration of the global COVID-19 pandemic constraints, posed a significant barrier to all club operations.

The Rotary Club was seeking ways to continue their community support efforts, ensure that existing long term community commitments and charitable support initiatives would be honored in full. The Club was also determined to continue their Legacy of community and charitable support long after the Club closed. The Club engaged YDCF to better understand how we could help.

Yorkton and District Community Foundation (YDCF) in partnership with the Rotary Club of Yorkton & their members, have created 3 new funds – dedicated to honoring the clubs over 100 years of charitable support and service  to innumerable charities and community initiatives that have serve or provided enduring benefit to the City of Yorkton and its residents.

The Funds created through this partnership are:

  • The Rotary Club of Yorkton Community Commitments Fund:  A designated flow through fund established to continue the residual multi-year projects and community support initiatives initiated by the Club prior to the dissolution of the Club. Once the registered projects are completed, this fund will be closed, and any remaining funds will be applied to the Rotary Club of Yorkton Legacy Fund.

  • The Rotary Club of Yorkton Legacy Fund: is an Endowment Fund composed of the funds set aside by the Rotary Club of Yorkton to celebrate their 100th anniversary, their remaining operational funds, and their unattributed project funds. The club has also set forth within that Fund some long-term recipients of their funding – that have been supported by the Club over many years.  This Fund will be issuing its first formal grants in the 2023 - 2024 YDCF Community granting cycle.

  • The Chrissie Quine Memorial Trust Fund: Chrissie Quine was a long-time resident of the City of Yorkton and an honorary member of the Rotary Club of Yorkton.  Known for her generous community support, volunteerism and charitable giving throughout her life, on her passing she continued her philanthropy and community giving by establishing a named trust with the Rotary Club of Yorkton.  The first granting cycle from this fund will occured in the summer of 2023.

YDCF is extremely pleased to be able to help the Rotary Club of Yorkton to complete the existing community commitments of the club and to extend and grow the 100+ year legacy of local community and charitable giving - on behalf of their organization.
